KERALA
The custom of reopening schools on Wednesday or Monday after summer vacation will be changed this year. The government has decided to reopen the schools on June 1, Friday itself. June 2, Saturday also will be a working day. The official declaration regarding this will be issued this week.
The new move is to ensure 220 working days in the next academic year. As per the rules in the new Right to Education Act, the central government will grant the fund for school mid-day meal only if there are 220 working days in the academic calendar.
There will be more working Saturdays in the next academic year. The working Saturdays will be confirmed only after the general educational calendar for next academic year is published.
According to custom, if May 31 is Monday, then the schools used to reopen next Wednesday. If May 31 is Wednesday, then the reopening will be on next Monday.
There were rumours that school reopening will be on June 4, Monday, following the custom. Most of the CBSE schools in the state had informed that they will reopen on June 4. However, the government decision is not applicable for CBSE schools.
